Present Day Adventures = {PDA}

This week has gone extremely fast. My husband and I actually had a little disagreement about how many days there are until my birthday. I was thinking I had more time, so sadly, he won. Doesn’t yesterday feel like Friday ?? Just me. Okay…

Maybe it was because Steven stayed home from work Sunday. He desired some extra Emmett time.

I had some work to do in the basement and this is what I came up to. I couldn’t resist the photo.

I knew with the upcoming weather change if we wanted any safe outside time that Monday was the best day. Emmett enjoyed sledding in 30 degree weather and I enjoyed the workout of pulling him up and down the hill.

Since the cold, as promised, showed up we baked on Tuesday. Emmett was pretty good at helping with the ingredients. Recipe to be shared later this week. {My moms ‘ol with a spice of my own touch} 🙂

As a SAHM (and everyone out there knows this) sometimes it’s easy to let ourselves go. By this I mean: getting dressed means putting a bra on and new comfy pants and pulling your hair up on top of your head in a gum band. It’s not that hard to fall into this rut.

Lately I’ve been thinking I wouldn’t be attracted to myself if I were my husband…So (I know it’s not much), I decided to put a little effort and spin on my look for when the hubby’s coming home from work.

Yes it’s a simple pony-twitted to the side with a clip. But it has inspired a somewhat nicer {simple} up do look for in public. {this picture has no justice either}

Easiest frozen treat ever. Apply whipped cream to half of a gram cracker place the other half on top and place in a sealed container in the freezer. Quick, yummy & (if you use the right ingredients) healthy. My boys love them.

Finally today we went on a family date, out to lunch and grocery shopping. Steven and I voted (he won) we weren’t on a time schedule to get out the door. So before leaving I was able to cut both of their hair, and straighten mine. It takes awhile. But I’m pleased to see how well the cut (by yours truly) still looks and it might actually be growing this month.

Only 9 more months until my sisters wedding… In which my hair must be long to be beautifully done up.

Thanks for stopping by today. Until next time.

half+way update

I can’t believe how fast January is going, not really I take it back…. Once you have a child, ALL months go SO fast. I wish there were a time machine to stop time for just a while; to simply enjoy everything for what it is, without the pressures of everyday life. Since that doesn’t exist I took today to assess my progress {so far}.

In December I took a minute to look ahead a whole year. Eighteen days later, that seems way too overwhelming to think about. Lets just focus on this month. My birthday month, are you following my 28 days to 28 years stories {ending up being just a blog everyday, so you can get to know my manners and mar-isms}.

January Goals:

Organize Kitchen {user friendly}
Order Emmett Dresser
Buy a new mattress
Book a winter craft show
Try a new recipe {Made surf n’ turf & Better Than Fries for the family last week}
Organize Bedroom {make more relaxing}
Organize Emmett’s room {When dresser arrives}
Place Potty Chair in bathroom {scary}
Take time to read more {Before Birthday, and keep habit}
Craft at least 4 more items for craft show
Create Baked Goods list for vendor shows
Shop for under-bed storage/headboard for our bed

+ All this before the end of the month !! I don’t know about you but I’m excited for February, all the pinks, reds (Emmett’s favorite color), and love in the air !

set goals

What are you goals before February arrives ??

For Your Amusement (Day 8)

Pictured above is the aftermath of the funniest moment of my day. The doorbell rings (our neighbor), the dog barks, Emmett runs, screams, and lops himself over the arm of the couch, and (wait for it)…. The huge bowl of popcorn goes flying. I answered the door laughing 🙂

I have to say I love my life and this little man I get to spend my days with. He keeps me busy and laughing. And its moments like this that help me remember I am blessed.

{did I mention this room was cleaned last night before bed?}

Whole Wheat Pancakes (Day 7)

I always struggle with what to make for dinner when it’s just Emmett and I, which is most of the time. I often go for simple Bisquick pancakes and E loves pancakes. I have been hunting excuses to use my Kitchen Aide Mixer, so I thought I would try a new recipe, one that was just a little healthier than the box mix. At only 87 calories per serving maybe I should say a lot.

2 cups whole wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, well beaten
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Stir together dry ingredients.
Add eggs, milk, and oil.
Stir until dry ingredients are moistened (batter maybe lumpy). Add water (or milk) as needed.

Cook on preheated griddle until bubbles form and edges start to dry. Flip and cook until lightly browned.

Emmett of course loved them, and I was surprised to find that they were in fact 100% better than any pancake I’ve tasted to date. These will definitely be a keeper in our house, though next time I think I will see if I can get them to be thinner. I am looking forward to using my Kitchen Aide many times this week and might even try a whole wheat waffle recipe. Check out my old post on making waffles in bulk.

(Clearly, you don’t need a mixer for this recipe. I just wanted to break it in easy).

28 Days to 28 Years (Day 6)

20140107-145256.jpg Sunday, we celebrated with a teenage turtle themed party.

I can’t believe Alex is ALREADY FIVE. It seems like we welcomed him to our family last year.

The time changed really messed with Emmett’s nap routine. Our normal was between 3 & 4 pm, sleeping the evening away, followed by a late bed time. I was about ready to throw in the towel but tried some new tricks and this week has been an after lunch (12:30/1:30) nap time. And they are lasting a normal toddler resting period. I can’t tell you how much this excites me.

20140107-145404.jpg Yesterday, I finally finished the kitchen organization. I had originally purchased this contact paper for my new kitchen island but instead decided to use it to refinish under the sink. I really like how it freshened the space, the wood was in desperate need of something.

It’s cold just about everywhere (except Hawii), this week, our house is no different. I wish my husband were home so I could go out and take some more snow covered pictures.
Emmett & Jake pictured above are actually laying on my feet. A very rare occurance for me to lay or sit down during the day, but desperate temperatures call for desperate measures.

I have used heavy blankets and towels to cover all of our doors and windows. And am praying our pipes do not freeze.

I hope your staying warm this week. Feel free to comment your ideas on keeping busy and warm on weeks like this !! Thanks for stopping by today.
Until tomorrow, friends.

28 Days to 28 Years (Day 4&5)

I didn’t post yesterday for two reasons: 1: I was only home for about an hour and in that time I was working on organizing more of my kitchen & 2: I was in a bad mood emotionally. I had so much that I knew I was going to say and none of it was made for the outside world. I have made it back to reality today and things are looking up.

Though not literary. The snow and temperature are sure falling these days. Black ice, 30 degree drops in temperature and freezing wind chills. It was easy to stay in and finish organizing the kitchen today.

Note there are rewards right handy in the bathroom. We are thinking potty training might be a go being that we are stuck inside anyway.
JellyBellys for pee potty and dum dums for po po potty.
Fingers crossed.

I can finally say (after 6 years), that I’m finally happy with my kitchen. The goal was to make it user friendly and have more food storage/counter space. And I have accomplished that well.

I’m going to try it out tomorrow with a new cookie recipe I found today.

My next organization project ? The master bedroom.

Thanks for stopping by.
Until Tomorrow !!

Ending 2013

December 2013 has flown by. It’s hard to believe everything we have been through and experienced this year.

The year has been interesting but the weather seems just as interesting.

It’s been raining, 40 degrees (& hot) and now it’s snowing.

After much procrastination and thought I finally got my hair done right. Of course with the help of my husband. I don’t feel like it needs done anymore.

I got a toy this year from my future brother in law, Joe. It’s a noise maker that aids you to fall a sleep. Let me tell you it definitely works.

Sunday we went for a special day out with Emmett’s Aunt Amy & Uncle Joe. It was pretty cool sitting as a family in the back seat. 🙂

Yesterday E & I made a trip to the local Walmart to return some wrong sized vacuum bags. While there Emmett was so well behaved I thought I had the wrong child. I think he’s growing up nicely. He did enjoy playing with my phone, he loves taking self portraits.

I’m ready for 2014 to be more organized. So for every room I have thought of a small organization idea. This shelf is for our big bathroom. With potty training quickly approaching I needed some shelves (that’s at least what I’m telling myself).

My big New Years resolution (for the the last several years) has been to be more organized. Now that we have a two year old added to the mix that goal is slightly hard to obtain. So I’ve changed it a little, I would like to be more organized than the year before.
Here’s to being more realistic as well.

Looking ahead to 2014:

+ Potty Training
+ My sister graduating college
+ Summer road trip to visit friends and many toddler friendly activities
+ Camping (A lot)
+ Expanding my crafting talents and sales
+ Possibly getting a few more cleaning clients
+ My Baby Sister turns 21 😦
+ Planning a fall Bridal Shower
+ The Wedding 🙂
+ Emmett turns 3 😦
+ Santa’s sending a magical elf to spy on Emmett

Happy New Years (Eve) Everyone.

I’m off to organize & get this tree down. (I don’t like starting the new year with Christmas decorations).

What are you looking forward to in 2014 ?

Merry Christmas

I just love Christmas and this time of year. I have picked up a few odd jobs on top of my already loaded plate so I haven’t been able to keep you updated on all things Christmas at our house.

Cooking & cleaning are on my list of favorite things so I’ve been spending a lot of time looking up new recipes for this years celebrations, shopping and prepping in the kitchen.
Today I made a great desert dish from my friend Rachel’s Blog , actually I made two. The chocolate trifle was a hit at both my husband and I’s family gatherings.

The local Walmart didn’t have mint Oreos so I used Winter Red Oreos and Mint M&Ms for a festive feel and taste. Plus I’m like totally addicted to mint.

This was me really getting into the Christmas cooking mood 🙂 I got a new candle I will be breaking out very soon too.

Both my husbands and my extended family’s do a pass around game with the story “The Night Before Christmas” it’s a fun way to get a gift and not break the bank.

Below is a picture of a gift Emmett got from my Aunt Donna, after our game was over.

As you can see Santa came to our house as soon as our little man went to sleep. So I must at least try to get some sleep for our big Christmas celebration at our house.

What are some of your Christmas & Christmas Eve Family Traditions ?

Easy as 1-2-3

As the garden is starting to produce a harvest, of course there is an abundance of zucchini.

This means that I am on the frantic search for tasty and easy recipes. I hate cooking in the summer. It’s just too hot.
I love my iPhone spark people app. It’s jammed packed with healthy, great tasting recipes. Today’s lunch was Fried Zucchini Patties and they were yummy.

All the ingredients were things we keep in the house but I wasn’t in the mood for garlic so I opted for onion instead.

Definitely a keeper as far as recipes go.
