September 2013

Life has flown by quite quickly these days, it seems like yesterday we were saying goodbye to August. Now we have started to embrace fall, my favorite time of year. I wanted to share some memories from our September.

Rachel one of my best friend’s little boy, Nolan turned two this month.

They had a train-themed party. You can check out her blog over at floral and fudge.

I feel so blessed to be apart of Rachel and Nolan’s life. We met through our MOPS Group. Emmett and Nolan have became great friends and are exactly 8 weeks apart.

Speaking of… MOPS has started back up this year, and the first meeting was such a blessing. Everyone had a wonderful time socializing and I’m looking forward to many more fun meetings.

The MOPPETS had a blast too. I didn’t get any pictures 😦 But our wonderful MOPPET Coordinator, dressed up as a clown and had face painting, circus party. It’s going to be an awesome year!

I am always organizing and trying to find the best way to use our space.

This month, I moved our kitchen table into the “dining room,” which is really the back of our living room… We actually love it out there and our kitchen has much more room to cook. I love doing things that make our home feel more ‘homey.’

Emmett’s new favorite snack is popcorn. Unfortunately he doesn’t like to use the bowl all the time. So our new couch gets it’s fair share of vacuum time! 🙂

Friday Night was such a blessing! It was “Date Night (as a fundraiser).” A small idea that came to our MOPS Group that has been a huge blessing, both financially and for those involved…

We are killing two or three birds with one stone, so to speak, Mom’s and Dad get alone time and our Kiddo’s get a play-date. Everyone wins. It truly is a blessing to be the sitter too, I get to see Emmett playing with the other kids and seeing other people’s kids imagination is AWESOME, to say the least.

< Matthew

Such a sweet little boy. He would randomly come over to me and give me a hug. Emmett didn’t know what to think of that.

Emmett loved his tractor riding experience with his Uncle Joe.

Daddy would flip if he knew this picture was in print.

Emmett was a great little helper when I was working in the shop a day this month. We accomplished two perms, two hair cuts, and a shampoo and set all in one afternoon. I was a proud Mama of a ‘big’ little boy.

Happy Boy with his bedtime, popcorn snack.

coleson's bday blog

Briana, another best friend, celebrated the birth of her oldest, Coleson. Yesterday was his Third Birthday Science Party. We got to wear our science glasses and make a bouncy ball, lava lamp, and ice cream. There was also a pop bottle volcano experience. Emmett wasn’t as well behaved as I would of liked, but he had lots of fun. We found out that Briana’s sweet grandma and Emmett share a birthday, and she too had her babies on their due dates.

Briana and I also met through MOPS and she is the reason I gave it a second meeting before deciding if it was something for me. She is to thank for a lot of changes in my life since then, though I don’t think she knows it.

Finally, today we went to McDonald’s for a Mommy & Emmett Date.
It gets me every time, but I love the fact the my son always wants his fruit and vegetables first.

As we are getting ready to flip our calendar and fully embrace fall, I want to wish all of your good health and happy memories. November will be here before we know it.

You just finished the most amazing meal you’ve ever tasted, debating on if you should dare to order the overly priced cheesecake. Just as you dismissed the thought of spending more of your amazing boyfriend’s money, bam, a piece is delivered right to you. Your boyfriend arranged for it while you were in the restroom.

Upon your first poke of the fork, clink, a ring falls onto your plate. He did the unthinkable and had a ring placed in your food. Followed by the most romantic proposal you could of ever dreamed up. You ended the night feeling like a princess.

Now that isn’t how it goes for all women, the most romantic proposal is few and far between. I myself had a slightly less romantic proposal, that’s another post in itself (NOT)! So I wanted to give some tips for those guys looking for the perfect ring, perfect time, and perfect story to create.

A few of you are going to want to know more about the popular princess cut, don’t be ashamed of doing a little research. It’s romantic in itself.

And please come up with plan, don’t just wait for a moment, Create It! It will set the tone for the rest of your relationship. If your not sure where to start this article is a great place to launch your thoughts.

Stronger – Week 2

Church Journey Group’s meet again tomorrow, and I’m excited to hear what Angela Thomas has to say about this weeks lesson, ‘God Is Stronger Than My Struggles.’

Day 1’s self-study, ‘with loneliness,’ would speak to anyone that has lived for more than a year of life. Everyone has experienced some type of loneliness in their life at one time or another.

I am like a desert owl of the wilderness, like an owl of the waste places; I lie awake; I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop.
Psalms 102:6-7

Angela mention in last weeks video lesson that God even cares about the lonely sparrow.
Praise God.
Even when we are that lonely sparrow God’s strength is with us. Even if we have to pass through the valley of weeping and sorrow, God is there to bring us joy and lift us up.

Day 2’s self-study, ‘with temptation,’ is yet another overwhelming truth. We all struggle with temptation, whether we would like to admit it or not.

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts on one.
James 1:13

Satan is sadly alive and well, and he is ready and willing to tempt us daily. Angela made a list to get us thinking that I will share.

Are you ever tempted to

  • Hold a grudge?
  • Share a confidence?
  • Make yourself and your problems the center of the world?
  • Withhold your love?
  • Withhold your forgiveness?
  • Turn your eyes away from the poor, the needy, the widow?
  • Gossip instead of pray?
  • Divide instead of unite people, church, and family?
  • Highlight the faults of the people you’ve been called to love?
  • Hide when God told you to go?
  • Judge instead of encourage?
  • Let a spirit of bitterness become your calling card?
  • Focus on your wants instead of your blessings?

We were asked to list three more temptations that “I” struggle with, as you can imagine that was somewhat easy. There are temptations Everywhere!

The Good News is found in I Corinthians 10:3 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it

Can I hear an Amen !

There are ways to avoid temptation as Angela shared in this book, Stronger. Some of which I’ve tried in the past and there were some that I look forward to trying in the future. Because I know there is just another temptation waiting around the next bend in life. Another trial to face. Another appealing on the outside, but not so good for you, event in the future.

I hope you are enjoying my updates on things I’ve been studying. Please feel free to comment with your study ideas or suggestions.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trail, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12 (One of my First Favorite Verses)

Be Careful About How You Talk

As some of you may know, I am currently coordinating our local MOPS (Mother’s of Preschoolers) group. We actually meet at The Summit Church that I mentioned in my last bible post.

Our theme this year is A Beautiful Mess, and we are embracing our stories of life. Our theme verse is Ephesians 2:10.

“For we are his workmanship, created IN CHRIST Jesus.” Is one version. There are so many versions of the bible, which I love because it makes it easier to study and understand it for today’s life.

As I am planning and praying for this years MOPS group, I stumble upon this verse quite regularly. The Lord really knows what he’s doing.

The leader of the study “Stronger”  I am involved in on Wednesday’s shared with us a little booklet called In Him, by Kenneth E. Hagin. In it, are verses listed with what we are to take from them, followed by an explanation or life application.

I would just like to share what he has to say about Ephesians 2:10…

“ We didn’t make ourselves new creatures — He did. We are His workmanship. And you’d better be careful about how you talk about His workmanship. Be careful to say the same thing about His workmanship that He says about it in His Word. Be careful no to slur or mock God by saying ‘Oh, I’m so poor and weak and unworthy. I’ll never amount to anything.’ He didn’t make you that kind of new creature. He made you a worthy new creature. He made you a new creature who could stand in His presences as though you had never committed a sin. He made you a righteous new creature. Start telling who you actually are — instead of who you think you are.”

WOW !!!

WOW !! Was all I had to say to myself when I was done reading that tid-bit of reflection.

Maybe it’s just me, but women tend to be a little negative about themselves, physically. Even if it’s not something we talk about, it maybe the thoughts going through our heads.

This thought from Hagin really makes me think. I really need to change my way of thinking ! I hope that this post helps you put your thoughts in perspective as it did me.

If you would like more information on MOPS and what it is about or if there is something for you in the MOPS organization for you please visit the MOPS website here.

Summer Time Construction (Part 2)

Almost a month ago, I put a post up about our garage tear down and shed construction, for those that were waiting for the Part 2 here it is.

We didn’t just stop at the garage project this year.  My husband and I went all out and put up the fence that we have been wanting for years. Our neighbors put up a wire fence the day we move in and it was needless to say, it was hard to get along with. It cut me and fell on me as I tried to mow by it, for it was right on the line. And it really didn’t make a great sight for our outdoor pictures, so finally we had the extra money and went for it.

As you can see I helped… I was the ladder holder while Steven cut off the poles to height.

The fence actually went up quite fast with the exception of the last three pieces. But thanks to Steven’s brother, Adam, it all worked out and we were very happy with our project.

The finish yard is very homey and I’m excited to have many cookouts and future football games in it.

Living Free

So it’s Tuesday and I’m told that most bible study posts come on Sunday, but this is ‘mannersandmars‘, where apparently even in my manners I’m slightly mars.

Our family has recently joined the church we have been attending for several months, and we’ve never been so happy. Other churches were just not home for both of us before. We are pleased to have found a church to call home, somewhere Emmett can grow up learning the word of God with friends from his class.

Click here to learn more about our new church.

I am a note-taker, so I’m thankful that Emmett goes to class, and I am not chasing him around the back of the church or stuck in a room without a speaker. Which by the way wouldn’t happen if he weren’t in class. This church is amazing and provides screens and sound through the church, so you are not to miss the service if you are caring for your little ones.

I’ve been going through some of my notes from Pastor Dan’s current series “Living FREE” and would like to share only some notes.

  • Jeremiah 29:11
Jesus paid for our past and future. Why not walk in it?
  • Jeremiah 33:8
No matter what you’ve done God has forgiven you. Forgive YOURSELF.
  • Psalms 34:18
Pain keeps us from doing what we need and want to do.

This was the third week in his series FREE, and he spoke on the Baggage we carry around from our past.

1. Abandonment

2. Failure

3. Guilt

4. Shame

5. Pain

Each and everyone of us deal with most of these bags in some form or another. We just need to praise God that he is there to take it away from us, forever. All we have to do is lay it at his feet and leave it there.

I am enjoying going through my notes each week, and have started to attend the Wednesday Night Journey Group at the church. A study called Stronger.’ Tomorrow is our first official study in the book, and I can’t wait. Each days lesson has spoke to me and I can’t wait to see what the author and other women have to say about the session.

I feel the Lord is leading me to do more within the body of Christ and this is just the first step. So I hope you follow along my journey, and maybe start one yourself.
